North Little Rock, Arkansas

TOSC is assisting a community in North Little Rock with groundwater and air issues at a wood treatment facility. The Glenview and Poe Addition Neighborhood Associations and TOSC entered into a Letter of Agreement on May 12, 2005. As identified in the LOA, TOSC would provide a series of workshops as well as participate in public meetings and review of industry and Arkansas Department of Health (ADH)/ATSDR documents. In June, TOSC held its first mini-workshop entitled "Learning More about Koppers Industries and the Environment: Their Processes, the Waste Generated, and the Potential Health Impacts of the Wastes." In August of 2006, TOSC continued the series with the second workshop: "Understanding Groundwater: A Mini-Workshop for the Poe Addition and Glenview Neighborhood."

TOSC reviewed the ADH/ATSDR simplified community fact sheet: "Summary of Koppers Public Health Assessment, North Little Rock, Arkansas," explaining their multi-year health assessment and provided written comments to the community and ADH/ATSDR. TOSC has participated in the quarterly Koppers/ADH/ATSDR conference calls to continue receiving updates about efforts in the community.
