The community uniting these two small towns has health issues/concerns due to the close proximity of several large chemical manufacturers within a 3-mile area in St. Charles Parish.

Organization seeking assistance

With the assistance of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and industry, the community has helped to form a Norco-New Sarpy Community Industry Panel.

Summary of assistance

A presentation to the community in April 2000 about the TOSC program was conducted, which included a preliminary discussion of the TOSC generated document entitled "Movement of Chemicals in the Industrial Corridor: A Community-Focused Summary." A more detailed presentation on this document was offered describing how and where contaminants move in the Louisiana industrial corridor. At this point, the community seems to be moving away from health issues and is focusing on jobs and job creation within their community.
