Land of Sky Regional Council, NC

Site description

The Land-of-Sky Regional Council represents four counties in western North Carolina where timber, textile, tanning, and paper milling industries were major economic engines in the early 1900s. As these industries faded, many of these properties were abandoned and now stand ready for redevelopment as the Council attempts to revitalize the area. The Council was awarded a $200,000 EPA Brownfield Pilot Grant in 2002 to identify and prioritize brownfields in the region.

Summary of TAB assistance

TAB is assisting the Land-of-Sky Regional Council's Regional Brownfield Initiative as the Council focuses on two brownfield sites: Elk Mountain Landfill Brownfield Project in Woodfin, NC; and the "Heart of Fletcher" site in Fletcher, NC. TAB assistance has included providing technical expertise to the Council as they review proposals for conducting phase I and II site assessments on the subject properties.
