Summary of TOSC assistance
Some citizens in Charleston, represented by the Four Mile Hibernian Community
Association, were concerned about high blood lead levels, especially in children. There was also an environmental issue of chromium exposure and related health effects. Residents felt that clean-up activities were too slow. They wanted to know more about the Superfund remediation process.
After TOSC involvement, many became concerned that they had not been kept
apprised about the potential health risks and consequential environmental
problems. TOSC provided written information on the toxicology and health effects
of chromium. TOSC also held three workshops on lead, Superfund, and Superfund
clean-up, respectively.
